Music in the Marae: Beethoven comes to the Wharenui
Kulios Trio: Dr Joe Harrop, violin; Crystal Lin, viola; Sarah Spence, cello
Performing:
Mark O’Connor: FC’s Jig (violin & cello)
Karl Sölve Steven (NZ): Suite for String Trio from ‘Black Hands’
Beethoven: String Trio, Op.9/3 in C minor
This will be a very special concert for several reasons.
If my memory is correct ,this will be the first time at these very popular Music in the Marae concerts have featured a work by Beethoven – and what a glorious work it is too.
The concert will include a very attractive new work by the New Zealand composer Karl Sölve Steven, who may attend the concert and will be able to introduce it. You don’t often get a chance to hear what the composer thinks.
Finally this will be the first time that the Kulios Trio has performed at the Marae. A very fine ensemble lead by the well-known musician Dr Joe Harrop.
As usual afternoon tea will be served after the concert which you are all welcome to attend for an extra charge as provided for on the booking form.
The October concert will be one of just two more this year in the very beautiful Te Aratiatia Wharenui at Fairfield Marae (the other will be November 16th). Don’t miss out.
Venue: Directions to the Marae are now signposted but if anybody has doubts about how to find the Fairfield Marae then please contact me. Russell Armitage: russell.armitage@gmail.com
As this concert is in a wharenui the usual custom of removing your shoes before entering will apply. There is ample room in the porch to leave them.
