This fast-paced tragicomedy is set in a small community in rural Ireland where filming of a Hollywood movie has taken over the town. The play explores the theme of how ‘big’ money and cultural misalignment can combine to exploit the local people with tragic consequences.

In this play the local extras become the stars and the stars become the extras. The demanding ‘two-hander’ script requires the two actors to perform as fifteen distinct characters, switching rapidly through gender, age, nationality and voice with minimal costume change - a hat or scarf here, a jacket there.

The play sees parallels with our Waiheke community struggling to reconcile the unequally shared benefits of over-tourism and its often adverse effects on our small community. A story of friendship, sorrow, laughter and ultimately hope.

A Community Theatre Production of Stones in his Pockets by arrangement with the Play Bureau.

Stones in his Pockets is written by Marie Jones.  Performed in Dublin and Belfast, at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, London’s West End and Broadway. A winner of two Olivier awards for Best New Comedy and Best Actor (2001). Presented by Waiheke On Stage.

Caution : Deals with the aftermath of suicide. Suitable for 13 years of age and older.
