After a hugely successful kaupapa in 2024, we are delighted to bring back the Community Kapa Haka Programme.
Step into the world of kapa haka with the Turner Centre's 8-week program led by Ngāti Rēhia's Rawi Pere, Crystal Harden, Denny Harden, and Daniel Kaiawe.
Starting April 29th, immerse yourself in this cultural journey exploring Poi, Haka, Choral, Action Songs, and Entry Waiata, culminating in a performance on June 22nd during Matariki week where you will take the stage on front of friends and whanau.
Limited to 50 spaces, participants must commit to all 8 weeks, which involves 10 session including a final Matariki performance. Join us to strengthen community bonds and promote inclusivity through the transformative power of kapa haka.
Supported by the Bay of Islands Whangaroa Community Board, this opportunity is pay-what-you-can and is open to participants from all cultures, aged 16 and above, with no prior experience necessary.
There will be performance opportunities after the completion of the Programme, including mihi whakatau for local events and businesses.
See comments from participants in the 2024 programme below:
