Experience the fiery heart of history as we transport you to the moment Napier was reborn! On February 3, 1931, at 10.47am, disaster struck, and the city was reduced to rubble by a catastrophic earthquake and a raging inferno. However, from these ashes, Napier emerged anew.
Join our 90-min tour, filled with riveting stories, vivid anecdotes, and a select few survivors accounts from the 1931 Hawke’s Bay Earthquake and ensuing inferno. These resilient structures bear witness to a city’s unyielding spirit. Walk through the city, where you will witness Napier’s rebirth in dazzling Art Deco style, a testament to human determination and reinvention.
You will also receive a pass to return to the Art Deco Centre over the festival weekend to view the movie ‘The Day that Changed the Bay’, at your leisure.
Please check in at the Art Deco Centre 10 mins prior to departure. Duration of the walk is 90-mins. This tour does depart in most weather conditions so a warm coat, walking shoes and perhaps an umbrella are recommended.
